NEXOS.Motion consists of complete multi-axis portal and gantry systems, built from our own components. Instead of custom engineering from scratch, the systems emerge from two coordinated product lines — NEXOS.Protec as the supporting aluminium structure and NEXOS.LinDrive as the drive axes. Result: scalable portal systems with documented repeatability and significantly shorter lead times than classical custom machine engineering.
Configuration variants
- 2-axis gantry (X + Y) — area-covering portal for handling, pick-and-place, sorting, palletizing. Standard configuration for many applications.
- 3-axis portal (X, Y, Z) — with vertical axis for three-dimensional handling and processing. Standard for feeding and loading applications.
- Portal with rotation (4th/5th axis) — rotary or swivel axis as end effector for orientation tasks.
- Portal with cobot/industrial robot — robot (e.g. NEXOS.Nova, Universal Robots, Kassow) travels on the portal axis as 7th axis. Multiplies reach without carts or special kinematics.
Frame size classes
The right size depends on payload, travel and available space. Through the four LinDrive sizes and the Protec profiles, meaningful combinations are possible:
- Compact portal (LinX120/230 + Protec120/230) — for tight installation spaces, medium payloads, high dynamics. Classic for electronics, consumer goods, small workpiece handling.
- Standard portal (LinX230 + Protec230) — the most common configuration for mechanical engineering and automotive feeding.
Typical applications
- Workpiece feeding at CNC machining centres — loading, unloading, transfer between multiple machines. One portal can serve several machining centres in a row layout.
- Palletizing — portal system for full pallet coverage and repeatable stacking patterns.
- Welding — welding head or robot on portal axis for long seams on large workpieces.
- Bonding and dispensing — precise path control over long bond lines.
- Pick & place / handling — fast transfer between conveyors, workpiece carriers and drop-off stations.
- Sorting and order-picking applications — positioning over layout stations and infeed conveyors.
Ecosystem integration
- As enclosed portal cell in NEXOS.Cube — with safety enclosure, doors, guarding and operator HMI from the Cube toolkit.
- As 7th axis for NEXOS.Nova or third-party robots — the robot travels on a LinDrive axis to serve multiple workstations.
- Virtual commissioning with NEXOS.XR — portal kinematics, path validation, offline collision analysis. Significantly shortens on-site commissioning.
- Integration with NEXOS.DSP — maintenance, remote access and operating data from one portal.
